Web standards and accessibility

The internet is 'browsed' by people across the world using a variety of different computer systems. In order to make sure that you are not denying any users (or potential customers!) access to your website, your web pages and content need to comply with relevant standards. Unfortunately, for many web pages this is not the case. So . . . .

Following code standards from the
World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) not only ensures that you do not deny any users, but is a big step on the way to ensuring your website complies with accessibility guidelines, policies and potentially even the law.

A website whose code complies fully with it's associated standards will also last far longer over the years as web browsing technology and software advances.

There is also the important issue of 'Usability' - a measure of how easy the site is to navigate and operate, closely related to accessibilty standards.

Many measures to aid usability are just common sense - making links stand out, making type clear and giving obvious navigation methods. This is also addressed in the graphic and interacitve design stage of any on-screen application.
